COA Ledges Hike
December 1, 2018 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
COA Ledges Trail Hike
Saturday, December 1
We will start at the trailhead entrance in Boston Heights called “Ledges Trail” which is off of Truxell Rd. (also known as Kendall Park rd) 1 mile west of “Akron–Cleveland Rd.” [or 2.2 miles east of “Akron Penninsula Rd”-for those coming from the valley in Akron]. There is a clean restroom, and water next to the parking lot. We will begin just next to the parking lot on the trail that runs to the right of the shelter house.
Hike is around 2.5 miles.
We will loop around the top of the ledges trail, which has rock formations and some steps. There is an 80 ft. elevation change. We will go the overlook, then back to the parking lot. The group can choose to take some of the minor trails as we come across them, such as to Ice Box Cave, (but many of those have steep inclines and declines in and out of the valley.) Dress for the weather, bring water, and wear good hiking boots as the trail has rocks and roots may be slippery. Trail is not accessible to folks with mobility impairments.
Afterwards, warm up with hot drinks in Hudson, Ohio (3 miles east of trail) at the venue of our choice.
Directions to trailhead:
From Cleveland: Take I=271 South to Route 8 south.. Get off at Route 303 (which is also named the Hudson Exit). At the light, do not turn, just keep going straight (you will be on Akron-Cleveland Road which runs parallel to the expressway). In about a mile you will turn right on Truxell Rd. Take that about a mile until you see the sign that says “Ledges Rd.” and make a right. Keep on Ledges Rd until it dead ends to the parking lot.
From Akron Take Route 8 (north) to the 303 (Hudson) exit. Turn left, then another immediate left (south) onto Akron-Cleveland Rd.(which runs just to the right and parallel to the expressway). Take that about a mile until you see the sign that says “Ledges Rd.” and make a right. Keep on Ledges Rd until it dead ends to the parking lot.
From Medina and Southwest areas : Take I-77 to 271-N, and exit Route 303. Head east on Route 303 until you arrive in Peninsula. Turn right on Akron-Peninsula Rd. and take it to Truxell Rd. Left on Truxell Rd. and continue until you arrive at parking for Ledges Trail.
From Youngstown and points East (use google maps).
