Bedford Reservation Hike

March 3, 2018 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm

Saturday, March 3rd @ 11 am
Bedford Reservation Hike
Leader, Jan

Bedford Reservation features a deep gorge carved out by Tinker’s Creek, with picturesque vistas and waterfalls. Tinker’s Creek travels 28.2 miles and is the largest tributary that feeds the Cuyahoga River. The creek drops a dramatic 220 feet over a course of two miles and has carved out a steep, walled gorge. The gorge was declared a National Natural Landmark in 1967.

Roughly 4-5.5 miles on natural surface path with rolling terrain at a moderate pace.

We’ll start at Egbert Picnic Area and hike the Buckeye Trail along the top of the gorge to Bridal Veil Falls. These cascading waterfalls in Deerlick Creek are surrounded by hardwoods and hemlocks. From here, we can opt to continue up the trail to the Tinker’s Creek Scenic Gorge Overlook before starting our return to Egbert.

Expect trails to be muddy this time of year. If they are too muddy, we can make use of the All Purpose Trail. Dogs are welcome.

Meet at Egbert Picnic Area on Gorge Parkway. There is no address for this location. refer to the park website at

Optional Extension. 1/2 mile interpretive trail hike to the Great Falls of Tinker’s Creek.

If anyone desires, after the hike, we can get in our vehicles and drive a short distance to Viaduct Park. Bedford’s history began here as the power of the Great Falls of Tinker’s Creek was harnessed between 1821-1913 for a saw mill, grist mill and electric power plant. Families such as the Benedict’s, Willis’, Gates’, and others all left their mark on this important parcel.

Hidden by time and muffled by the roar of locomotives, this area has been revitalized and opened in 2002 by a cooperative effort by Cleveland Metroparks and the City of Bedford. Walking paths, overlooks, and wayside panels help preserve the past and conserve the natural surroundings, while telling the story for future generations.
